Literary Trails of the North Carolina Mountains
Get Connected

With a wealth of book clubs, writer’s workshops, visiting writers series, library and book store events, book festivals, and writer’s organizations, North Carolina is an ideal place for writers to get and stay connected. Search the North Carolina Arts Council website  for details on the Lenoir-Rhyne College Visiting Writers Series, the Appalachian State University Hughlene Bostian Frank Visiting Writers Series, readings and discussions at bookstores like Malaprop’s in Asheville, literary festivals, and other events. The Arts Council’s Poet Laureate web page not only highlights our current Poet Laureate but also includes a list of poetry sources and resources. Our directory of North Carolina local arts councils and links to listings of the state's bookstores will connect you with locally-sponsored events in your community.

Founded in 1985, the nonprofit North Carolina Writers' Network is the oldest and largest statewide literary service organization in the country. Visit their site and take advantage of their resources and opportunities to connect with the state’s literary community. Numerous other groups abound for writers with a particular interest in the genres of science fiction, mystery and romance.

The North Carolina Highway Historical Marker Program presents “history on a stick” by marking sites of statewide historical interest with educational signs. Sites of literary significance are being added to their lineup. North Carolina ECHO -- Exploring Cultural Heritage Online--is the World Wide Web's doorway to the special collections of North Carolina's libraries, archives, museums, historic sites, and other cultural institutions. North Carolina LIVE provides North Carolina residents and students with access to high quality information--searchable collections of magazine, newspaper, and journal articles, electronic books, historical materials, maps, and much more--covering a wide range of topics.

WorldCat.org lets you search the collections of libraries in your community and thousands more around the world. It is the world's largest network of library content and services. WorldCat libraries are dedicated to providing access to their resources on the Web, where most people start their search for information.
